2018-06-19 · Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana was already an incredible, intricately-crafted modern-day classic of RPG, and the ability to play it on the go with the Switch only further enhances its greatness. Any version of Ys VIII that you play is going to be a good time (especially now that the PC version's up to snuff), but, in my opinion, nothing beats the Switch version.

We’ve already reviewed Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana on PC and PS4 before. As you’d know if you’ve read those reviews, we kind of adore the game. NIS’ action combat JRPG series has always been great, underrated, and just plain special. Adol, Dogi, and the rest of the gang are back in Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA - for Nintendo Switch! Adol awakens shipwrecked and stranded on a cursed island. There, he and the other shipwrecked passengers he rescues form a village to challenge fearsome beasts and mysterious ruins on the isolated island.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana does have some light, frustrating moments that await the pure completionists out there, but that comes with the territory. It is a fully realised artistic masterpiece, both visually and even more so in the audio department, and deserves a place in any serious Switch player's collection.
